The Chevrolet Silverado is highly dependable, making it a great investment that you can drive for years to come. Thanks to the Silverado’s design, it excels as a work truck, going off-road, or towing items. Opt for a spacious cabin configuration, and the Chevy Silverado can even be your family vehicle, fitting everyone in comfort while providing the technology and safety you need. Best of all, there are multiple versions of the Silverado, including the Silverado 1500, the Silverado 2500HD, the Silverado 3500HD, and even a Silverado Chassis Cab. While the last of these is really only needed for commercial use, the average driver will still find themselves with three pickups of increasing strength and towing capabilities, perfect for construction work or just bringing a horse trailer or boat with you.
The Silverado 1500 has proved to be a high-quality truck you can count on. Even once you choose your Silverado model, you still have plenty of customizations available via engines, drive trains, trims, and various packages. This means you can keep the Silverado simple and stick to a budget or fit it out with luxury features, like leather upholstery, a 110-volt outlet or Wi-Fi, which helps you turn your pickup into a mobile office.
The Silverado has always been a champ at towing and hauling cargo, but several updates for the 2021 model year bolster those capacities even more. Chevy has updated the diesel and turbocharged 4-cylinder engines, and they now have higher towing capacities than in prior years – when properly equipped, the Chevy Silverado 1500 can tow up to 13,300 pounds.
Several updates for 2021 make the Silverado even more capable of substantial towing duties. The diesel and turbocharged 4-cylinder engine options now offer higher towing capacities than before, and when the truck is fully equipped for towing, it can pull as much as 13,300 pounds. The truck can also be equipped with new trailering assistance tools like the trailer length indicator, which helps you determine if you have enough room to change lanes. It also offers a jackknife indicator to bring your attention to the trailer’s motion. Chevy also offers a convenient Multi-Flex tailgate that can be configured in six unique ways.
Although the Chevrolet Silverado is based on pickups that have been around for decades, the first model known as the Silverado 1500 arrived for the 1999 model year. This 1999 Silverado 1500 came with new V8 engines, a range of trims, and the choice of a regular, crew, or extended cab. Initially, Chevy offered it with QuadStar, a four-wheel steering system, but it only lasted until 2006, since there was low demand, and it was costly to produce. This generation also had a Silverado SS with higher engine output.
The general configurations for the second-generation Silverado remained the same, and engines were 4.8 liters up to 6.2 liters. This generation began with the 2007 Silverado, when the cabin was upgraded and new interior options were added. The technology constantly improved throughout the generation. The current third generation began as a 2014 model year with upgraded technology, an all-new body style, new interior, and more efficient EcoTec3 engines.
